Ramsey Campbell is a master of horror. I remember Stephen King praising him back in Danse Macabre.
I've only read one of his books,
Midnight Sun. I liked it. Campbell specializes in 'quiet horror' which is more about a sinister mood and creepy stuff than monsters chasing people or gore. They all have their place. Just be aware before trying him. You'll likely be three steps ahead of the characters, because you read a lot of horror and are aware that they are living in a horror story.
