mobileread has quite a few technical forums, but this, MobileRead Forums > E-Book General > General Discussions, is not one of them. I deliberately started this thread here to discuss the
idea of fractional page numbers and to show that serendipitous support already exists.
If this idea is ever ready to be developed I intend to start a thread in Workshop, EPUB format, or Kindle formats as appropriate.
If there is ever a tool to automatically fractionalize pagination of a kindle format book the Kindle forum itself would be the place for it.

It makes testing by other users much easier when you can just download/convert/fiddle directly instead of nebulously trying to recreate exactly what we're all discussing.

I do mind. The matter of support for 3a, 3b, 3c, and A1, A2, A3 is an entirely separate topic for a different thread that would best be in the Workshop forum. So, the penalty for noticing and reporting something that is only of peripheral interest to me but that you have expressed interest is to have to meticulously document it at the necessary cost of not doing something else that actually matters to me?
page-map page entries have an element named "name" whose value is a character string whose value is what is rendered on screen. Many EPUB interpreters, including various reading devices and kindlegen seem to accept a broad range, kfxgen apparently does not.
For me, this thread is already a diversion of a diversion. I am not a professional, or even amateur, ebook producer and have only got into various tools for the usual format conversion reasons. I have only gone further in order to be able to fix egregious errors.
While looking into fixing badly broken pagination on kindle books I came across a post on EPUB pagination and also learned that kindlegen can generate an apnx file from a paginated EPUB. When I noticed the on screen page display is designated by a string the idea of fractional page numbers popped into my mind.
