One reviewer is not significant numbers of consumers. Even a majority of mobileread readers aren't statistically significant.

Of course not.

I'm not saying there's no benefit to waterproofing electronics. My assertion is that Apple made it A Thing as a threat to third party repair first, a beneficial feature for consumers second, and that other manufacturers have followed either for the same reasons or to avoid being seen as behind the state of the art.
