Calibre Server: Maybe 'virtual' dates?
I grok the two columns: 'modified' date and the 'date' date.
What about replacing these file-based date columns with a Calibrate-Modified date and Calibre-Created date column (like a sharepoint library)?
Especially for "Anthology" entries.
A recent "well-duh" epiphany of mine was these columns are tied to "file attributes" rather than database entry.
Here is the one thing: If you use 2012 Data Dedup, and you update the 'modified' date column according to file attribute for "modified date" you will (I learned) find calibre library always with a recently 'modified' date column for each book.
As new data is added to the volume being dedup'd your Calibre library will be modified when duplicate data is found.
Oh and Antivirus scans too!
My one work-around to preserving original 'modified' / 'date' dates in calibre....... put Calibre Library on a separate volume and create an additional separate 'mount-as-needed' volume for exporting "anthology sources".
1) merge epub series
2) mount separate "anthology sources" volume
3) export source epub files to mounted volume
4) dismount separate "anthology sources" volume
A bit kludgey
a newer work around was to create a template to copy dates to new columns after the moment when done editing.
Unfortunately, pretty much every "calibre opds server" app is hard coded to only recognize the 'date' date column as displaying "newest" titles.
