Call Amazon support and see what they tell you. In my experience customer support is excellent and who knows they may offer you a deal on a kindle (or not). When I go out I purposely take one of my "cheap" ereaders like my kindle basic or old sony ereader I bought on shop goodwill in case something happens it's no big deal and I'll just get another one.
