I am very excited. I love reading on my iPod Touch, but I was looking for a new larger-screen device because there are times I prefer reading on one (for example, I find the smaller screen much harder to read from while in motion so I do not take the iPod Touch to the gym). My eBookwise has been a good starter device for me but I really wanted something lighter and more portable. For various reasons, the Sony was my pick.
I just went and got it today. I am on March break now and will have time to play with it. Calibre is downloading as we speak (I am a Mac user and have no plans to use the Sony store, so Calibre will be my file manager) and I plan to download some of my Fictionwise purchases into it to put on the reader tonight.
Two interesting tidbits:
1) I saved almost $70 by asking if they had any returned units/open boxes. They did, and I got a discount.
2) I mentioned that I had been disappointed I had to come all the way to their store to get it, and the sales guy said they do not like to partner with other stores to sell the reader because they feel like if they get people into the store, they can brainwash (he used a different word) them to only buy the ebooks themselves from the Sony store. I had never heard this theory before
Ooooh, Calibre is downloaded. Off to play! Anyone have some favourites from the Mobile Read library that they want to recommend to me? The number of available titles is quite extensive and the list is rather daunting. I remember hearing something about a Sherlock Holmes omnibus, but don't know what else I should play with.
