What you do is you check out the new firmware and if there are any gotchas that you don't like, don't update. It's that simple. It's what I do. But when there is a change like the home screen, you either deal with it or stay on the older firmware forever. And the thing is, if you ever get a new Kobo, you'd get these new features. So either you move on and deal or you stay on older firmware.
There are choices what one can do with the new header/footer. Turn on or both off, have both on or swap the header/footer leaving both on.
