All: thanks for the Modify ePub plug-in update. Every file that comes into my Calibre library is subjected to its cleansing rays.
On the issue of the fail on deleting images referenced from the styles: Yes, kind of awkward since an image can be deleted but the actual style rule referencing it remains in the CSS. Kind of a smoking gun...
For me, it is not much of an issue...yet. I have not seen any books other than my own which utilize the basic sanitary practice of placing heading/dropcap/scenebreak images from the CSS. I keep that "remove unused images" unchecked in the plug-in options for that reason — and also because it is not uncommon to find a book in which image links (esp. maps in history books) are cruelly orphaned, and I want a chance to correct that. However, it would be very nice to have the plug-in be able to account for these style references when I am using it (sometimes) to blast away 100 files because some...person who needs instruction...has placed that many scenebreak images in the book, carefully copying and renaming the image in each instance. I used to delete those files one at a time but the plug-in makes that easy — as long as I keep aware of the CSS fail.
The Calibre Check tool finds the CSS-referenced image fine. The Calibre Reports tool also finds the CSS-referenced image fine. If only there were a way for the knowledge in either of those tools to be known by Modify ePub...
