Maybe put a WANTED notice in mobileread's fleamarket. If you want to buy second hand, MR members are the best to buy from; there may be someone near you.
Otherwise, if buying new, take your pick between the basic Kindle or Kobo Aura (more expensive). Your current epubs can be easily converted to azw3 for the kindle, provided they're not drm'd; removing drm is possible.
