Don't mount the image. You will get the same sort of error as mounting the card. Unpack the file and write the img file inside to the card. Then put it back in the device.

For getting book on the device, you can use the browser. It can download book and they will be added to the library. It isn't a great way to get a lot of books onto the device, but it works for a few books at a time.
