@strether - does this help

If not:

open the calibre configuration directory (there's a button in Preferences Miscellaneous)
close calibre and the editor
delete tweak_book_gui.json
restart calibre and open the editor
now you should have default settings

@anyone - while I'm here: is there a way to remove the button bar on top of the code panel ?
