I read Kubla Khan while reading this book, and found that while the hallucinogenic imagery was fascinating, it made precious little sense to me, even armed with a dictionary and a Google search engine. Perhaps that was because it was, after all, a fragment, or perhaps the fault lies in my ability to grasp the concepts he was putting forth, but I strongly suspect it had more to do with the chemical compounds running amok in Coleridge's cranial landscape when he wrote it.
