Strange, I don't experience this when I alt-tab, win-tab etc... (even when I choose 1 column) it stays the full width, full screen no matter how many times I switch apps.

Sorry I can't help, but my Windows Snip and Sketch tool works fine as does my print screen function copy the full screen to the clipboard without altering what I'm viewing.
