It’s related if you don’t go to the home screen between reading sessions.
So let’s say you’re reading Book A it’s 100 pages you get to page 25 and then go and buy a book which requires you to go to the home screen now. You then return to reading Book A and read another 25 pages. You opt to check the reading status in the menu which is calculating from the point of the first 25 pages onwards rather than at the point of 50 pages which is where you are. This will show you have significantly longer to go than you actually do. And will present as a miscalculation when it’s really a correct calculation but with the wrong input.
As I noted that bug doesn’t affect the header or footer however 4691mls specifically mentioned opening reading status which makes me suspect they’re not using the header and footer to get the estimate but rather they are going for the display in the menus.
