It sounds like the battery got too low for the charge circuit to recognize it is there. Keep unplugging it from the charger after the orange light goes out and plugging it back in again. I had one do that recently and after a couple of days of reconnecting it when I randomly walked past, the charger finally found the battery and it charged ok.
Your battery may be too far gone, but it eventually worked for me.
