The Kindle App is quite snappy on my Fire HD 10 (2017) and my Google Pixel 2XL. It's a bit slower on my Nexus 7 (2013), but I wouldn't say it doesn't work "well."

It very-well could be down to the size of the library, though. I don't keep all my previously read books on my devices. Typically only a book or three is downloaded at any given time.
