I tried this... Nothing worked. I ended up using acetone-based nail varnish remover, but of course that REALLY made a mess of it, and can eat away the base plastic itself (there wasn't a great line between the sticky surface and the actual plastic). Plus, if you aren't careful and get it on the screen you will destroy the substrate. On the plastic, even if you can get it even-looking, it leaves it with white streaks. I would NOT recommend any of this! I ended up with a sink full of sticky black plastic, sore hands from all of the intensive scrubbing and a worse-off eReader. NEVER AGAIN.
Let's just say the top bezel of the old Touch now has a "dog's dinner" sort of look to it.

Glad I didn't go hog-wild and start on the back panel at the same time!
