Help needed to repair Calibre installation
Hi all --
I have been running Calibre for some two years very successfully. My collection of nearly 300 books was nicely classified and everything was satisfactory. From time to time, the splash-screen offering an upgrade was presented. I have always accepted this and run the binary installer which has always worked correctly.
Yesterday (4th October), I found the option to install version 4.0 but when I ran the installer, error messages were presented and the whole system was corrupted so that I could not run Calibre.
I tried repeating the download, de-installing Calibre, deleting the Calibre folder from the "/opt" directory but none of these operations has improved matters. It would seem that version 4.0 is not compatible with my system (64-bit LinuxMint) so, I have tried to regress back to version 3.39, which worked perfectly. I have visited the Calibre site but I cannot find a binary installer, so I cannot install the program. Fortunately, the Calibre library is intact and I also have a backup of this.
It would seem that version 4.0 is not compatible with my system. Unfortunately, I do not have sufficient knowledge of Linux to know what is wrong or how to correct this. I guess that I may be restricted to version 3.39 (which worked perfectly) so I will accept this limitation but, again, I have no knowledge of how to install this.
I cannot find any way out of this mess so can anyone please be so kind as to advise me how to proceed.
Best regards to all on this forum --
