The first thing a former or prospective DX/DXG owner should do is get a Kobo Forma.
Kobo Forma as Aura One is only about 16 cm wide in landscape, so, wide A4 pdf documents with the text width over 18 cm and wider comics will be problematic if we don't like pdf reflow, because unlike with 20 cm wide Kindle DX (using KPV reader) where we can get 10-20 % magnification by removing empty margins, on Forma/Aura we have 10-20 % reduction in the text size.

I have elder members in my family who always use Kindle DX outdoors despite owning 8" Pocketbooks, and I would also almost always use Kindle DX outdoors (or 10" Hanvon) for such wide pdf/comics instead of Aura One, and indoors it would be iPad or monitor.

I'm not a student anymore, so the flipping & highlighting speed is not as important to me and I still rather use pen & paper for the note taking although several of my eink readers and lcd tablets have a good pen support.

I've changed two batteries on my DXG in the last six years and will probably buy the third for the summer 2020, unless I buy a newer 10" eink with frontlight or hopefully Clearink tablet.
