My Kobo Aura H2O is superior screen to the PW3 or PW4 with no light on. Less difference with front light on. Better than any other ereader I've seen.
I suspect capacitive touch reduces ambient brightness compared to IR as it needs additional layer(s) and transparent conductive material.
My Kobo Touch C is the worst screen of any ereader I've ever seen, tested or had (Sony PRS350, Sony T1, original Sony in a shop, Nook Simple Touch, Original Kindle Keyboard, Kindle w/o touch or QWERTY, DXG, Touch, PW2, PW3, PW4, Iriver Story Cover) due to ghosting, though 4.17 and 4.18 are less ghosting than when I got it earlier this year.
