catsknit - where and when did you get the publisher, comments etc. I have a vague memory of getting a situation like you have if I did some editing, then downloaded metadata, without saving my change - or some similar sequence. Now I do any metadata downloading first, save, then do any editing and save again.
Here's a series of screen shots that shows what I probably would have done (some of my buttons may look different to yours because I've customised them). I assume you started off with this:
I would have cut the series data from Title (to clipboard),
then clicked the to Title Sort button,
then paste the series data I cut from Title,
then adjust the series data
After that I would have entered tags etc and clicked OK.

PRECISELY what the OP was trying to do - get rid of Series in Title and put in the Series columns (name and index)!!!!
