I find paging to not be an issue at all on my H2O reading ePub. In fact, I prefer the ADE page numbers for the full book. Plus, I prefer the better layout. You now get chapter paging that works 1 page is one screen. so if it shows 1 OF 10, that's 10 screens.
ADE has better page numbering. This means that if you read on a nook or a Kobo you can have the exact same page numbers.

No, because Jon has it wrong. Or at least extremely badly described.
In 4.17, Kobo added displaying the chapter progress in the header while displaying the book progress in the footer. This works in all formats.
Epubs still use the Adobe page numbering. That is for both full book and chapter paging.
For kepubs, the full book page count uses the same method as the chapter page count. So, one page per screen. The chapter page count is unchanged. The full book count used to be calculated using 320 words per page.
