Aside from the obvious reason for being interested in the book, some people may be interested in because the airplane wasn't invented until 1903. The lighter-than-air balloons had been invented long before 1881. Maybe 1881 is the date that the first one of them disappeared? I'll read the first part of the book just to try to find an answer to that question.
