I thought now would be a good idea to consider including the KoboTouch Extended plugin in a default Calibre install. I know some people, (well one,) much prefer the formatting of the Adobe Epub reader, but I think new users will be in for much fewer unpleasant surprises if we use the Touch Extended driver by default.

I have considered this in the past, but, I have never considered it a good idea.
The problem is that Kobo doesn't really support sideloaded kepubs. The only reference to sideloading kepubs is part of their guidelines to authors for preparing a book to be published by Kobo. That suggests a way to test the book by changing the file extension. But, it is just about testing the look. While it is unlikely that Kobo will drop support for sideloaded kepubs, because it isn't an officially supported format, I don't think that making kepub the default format is the correct thing to do. And if the kepub generation isn't the default, then there isn't much benefit from merging the two drivers.
