If you have a recent edition of Word (IIRC 2016 and up) try opening the PDFs directly, it's become my first preference for dealing with PDFs - in many instances I don't even have to re-style.

Alas, working with Office 2010 version of Word from my partner's company for home use
Seeing if they have an update. Sounds like it would save me hours eg replacing chapter fonts with H1 to build the ToC etc. Thanks
