As I said, Mars mediocre. 3/10 as a reader, 1/10 tablet function.
Wow, that's a pretty negative assessment. I bought mine about a year ago and am still very happy using it as a reader, mostly for scientific PDFs, occasionally a regular ebook. I'm not using the default reader, but Librera Pro (and ReLaunchX as launcher). Since they added a regular way to switch apps a while ago, I currently can't think of any complaints with the device. I also don't find it particularly slow, yes it probably isn't as fast as my phone or tablet, but while reading PDFs the only time I might have to wait for a second or so is when first opening a file and sometimes when jumping around in the document, i.e. skipping 10 pages ahead or back and stuff like that. Regular page change during reading is essentially instantaneous as far as I can tell.

I hope, there'll be an upgrade to Android 8 for future proofing as hinted at for the newer 10 inch reader/writer, although I'm careful not to be too optimistic about that getting to the Mars. Would be a shame if it didn't though.

People have reported that the Onyx Nova is yet a bit better, so if I were looking for a 7.8 inch reader now I'd weigh the price difference to the purported benefits, but as a device I'm still quite happy with the Mars as my travel reader.
