Smith & Helwys is having a "September Sale" (shall we infer, then, that this sale occurs every year?).

The highlight of the sale, IMHO, is the 13 _Reading . . ._, First Series commentaries on the New Testament for $8.99/each. They appear to be somewhat technical, but not so technical that the serious Bible student couldn't benefit. There is one volume in the Second Series that has already been published, and it is marked down, too, but not nearly as much as the volumes in the First Series. There is also a passel of Old Testament commentaries in the sale, marked down to $8.99 each also, I think.

I think that Smyth & Helwys is in the Southern Baptist orb, based upon the fact that a good number of the authors are associated with Baylor. Maybe that will give you an idea of the ideological and/or theological standpoint of the author's [not my spelling error--it's the stupid spellchecker again] books.

Even at a price of $8.99 each, buying a set of these commentaries will set you back quite a bit of money. I'm sure that most of you will want to be discriminating about your purchases. I suggest that, in addition to your own perusal of the texts, that you will want to check ratings at such places as BestCommentaries.com, Amazon, and Goodreads.

There are also a huge number of general, popular-level books on sale.

You'll see a discount code for 50% off. However, I can't figure out what it is good for, because none of the prices changed when I tried the code, and the discount from S&M's regular prices don't seem to be 50% off anywhere that I checked.
