Did you use the calibre GUI or command line tools - if you used the GUI ISpark maybe barfing on embedded calibre custom column metadata. You can fix that using the calibre Modify plugin - click its "Remove non dc: metadata elements:" check box.

Or you could open the epub in Sigil, press F8 to get into its metadata editor, delete everything that has calibre in it, run epubcheck, if its okay (should be), save it and send to ISpark. Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes - including download and install of Sigil.

What did you use to write the book - e.g MS Word, Office Writer, InDesign... QuarkExpress?

Can't ISpark do the conversion from manuscript format - DOCX, ODT, whatever?

If not there are arguably better ways to get from a manuscript format to an EPUB format than the calibre conversion way. Think of it like this --- you are in Paris, you drive to Rome, but when you get there you discover you're in Berlin, or that you had an accident in Chambery.
