Just to confirm, not that it makes any difference: you did try to run the update via "Update Your Kindle" first, right, you did not reboot with a custom .bin file in there?

(In any case, the factory updater will murder the file with prejudice, so, that, on its own, can't be the explanation behind the current state. Just a coincidence).

If you've watched it crash & burn a few times, it'll eventually shutdown on the "Your Kindle Needs Repair" screen. If it doesn't, that means something weirder is happening very early in the boot process.

In any case, if it crashes early enough, you're probably SoL unless you open it up for serial access.
