I think you're being a bit over-dramatic here. When (if) I buy a new smartphone there's a good chance it will have the microUSB port, not a USB-C one. The reason... almost all low-end and middle range smartphones still use microUSB (five years after USB-C was introduced). And there's no way I'm paying $500 to $1000 for a phone. I wouldn't
not buy a smartphone because it had a USB-C port, but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to find one just because it had USB-C. The feature is not that important to me.
