8GB will store 3000+ typical books.

a kindle will take up to a week, plugged into a wall, to index them all. and if it chokes on just one you will have endless fun finding out which one upset it.

Books with lots of full colour pictures - like cookery books - will take up more space per book, but a simple test is How much space does your entire Calibre Library take up right now

be aware also that Amazon has no download all option
if you have , say 5,000 books bought from amazon and stored in their cloud - you can't say send them all to my new kindle please. you have to laboriously select individual books and say send to ...
