The other active blogs are very slick and seem focused on selling their point of view. The only ereader blog with news on a regular basis is goodereader and we can't trust it.

I wouldn't say Good Ereader is totally untrustworthy. For the record, they generally do a nice job of reviewing devices and covering the ebook/e-ink industry. Like you said, there's nobody else out there doing e-reader news on a regular basis so the blog does serve a useful purpose.
What they catch a lot of flack for however is the so-called insider info and predictions which often turn out to be wrong. Last year they said the Kindle Paperwhite would have a color temperature system. That obviously wasn't the case. They also speculated that Kobo might be developing the Mini 2 (how I wish this were true!). Instead, Kobo released the Clara HD shortly thereafter. It's hard to tell whether the "inside scoop" they claim to have is real or just wishful thinking/conjecture.
That being said, I still follow their Youtube channel and blog but take predictions about anything with a grain of salt.
