The purpose of the "beta" was to beta-test a new python2 release. Reason being, Kovid did not want to release a new version without testing, because there was lots of churn and we were afraid it may have broken some python2 functionality.
In terms of python3 beta testing, there is currently no expectation of having beta builds. We already know it is a bit broken, and there are also outstanding tasks for the porting process itself.
However, if you're interested, it is possible to run calibre under python3, on linux, if you build from source. It is totally unofficial and I don't really encourage it unless you want to contribute to the porting efforts somewhat directly...
For Arch Linux users, this will be pretty easy. Just install calibre-python3-git from the AUR.
