Regarding phones that swim

FWIW, I have read that they can sometimes be saved if you fish them out of the water, remove the battery if possible, dry off the outside, and shove them into a sack/bowl/whatever of uncooked rice. Leave it there for a day or two.

Rice apparently holds onto moisture well enough that the water will tend to work its way out of the phone and into the rice.
