Thanks very much for pointing out the issue! I have done a few small things:
  1. To get my Kindle + Calibre back to full action I have compiled a newer kernel (5.2.5) with the kernel change reversed. Not a long term solution but my system is now back to normal.
  2. Added a note to a forum where the Slackware developer reviews posts. This will raise the profile of this issue a little more at least...
  3. Subscribed to the kernel bug report so I will be cc'd with any changes + be involved in any testing of fixes

In terms of solving the issue this is not much help, for which my apologies. And again thanks for Calibre and your prompt responses on these Forums

Now back to actually reading my Kindle!
