Kindles are not able to completely read rootfs.img (file to large, but no error given) with fastboot.
What you have now is a mixed set of system files, when you hit the wrong one, then the Kindle will fail.

I don't have any experience on kindles. I thought fastboot program can handle it. Somehow, it survived after first update. I spent a lot of time trying to run necessary tools. So I hope it won't fail for a while...
