Hey guys,
I've got another evidence that my theory is correct. "Flawed" update process.
Yesterday evening while reading I noticed that the highlighting mechanism has changed in this last fw version.
As you can see in the attached picture, when you are in the process of highlighting something you now see a line below the highlighted words, and a vertical bar on the side. When you release your finger, the text becomes gray as usual.
This, in contrast with the "old" way you probably have: the text becomes gray while you drag your finger.
Now: I use highlighting A LOT, because I track typographical imperfections in my books and use calibre to correct them, and I am sure that this behaviour did not change immediately after the fw update.
I am certain that until the day before yesterday the highlighting worked as in the old fw version.
So now I am guessing that after the update process completed (with the famous "Your Kindle has been updated" words), it is not really completed yet.
Somehow the Kindle still wants to download some... resources from the Amazon servers, like those for the new highlighting, and keeps trying (and burning batteries) until it can't get it.
There is also a person I met over Telegram who was complaining about battery drain (not jbroken): I suggested him to let the kindle go online for a few minutes, and his problem is solved as well.
