That sounds like the way to go.
No way to tell what's going awry without either running the thing manually in a shell, or looking at the KUAL logs in a shell.
Unless you did something obvious wrong, which doesn't look like it, especially if you've got other extensions running fine, there's probably nothing much you can do about it, and it's just a case of bit rot.
