First published in 1889. Peter was born in England, and taken to live in Paris as a child. He meets an English girl there, meets her again in England some years after the deaths of their parents from cholera, and develops with her the ability to share "a double dream, a dream common to us both" and the ability to travel together through time and space while dreaming.
