Asking what their upgrade did. This is the first reply

Well, it didn't answer my question, so I emailed again, asking if there was no functional difference, what was the purpose of the software upgrade? And this is their reply:

So, sirbruce was correct.
But I still don't see it as a waste of time........I wanted an answer, and got it.
They either don't know what the fork they are doing, or don't care to publicize it.
I vote for the second option.
