I've not read any of his work under his real name, so I have no idea what kind of culture shock you may or may not be in for. Parker's work can be a bit bleak (but full of black humor) and often focuses on the ridiculousness and futility of war. Tragically flawed yet brilliant characters abound.
There's a large collection of his short-stories and novellas (
The Father of Lies) that's reasonably priced if you're looking for a sampling before committing. The Fencer Trilogy and the Engineer Trilogy are also some of my favorite longer works.
