I know that Calibre and/or VMWare enables Mac users to handle the 505, but I don't know much about it, but I'm sure someone else will pipe in.

I'm not sure about txt, but BookDesigner can convert an HTML word document in seconds. I'm pretty sure Calibre can too.

As for the charge, it might last that long. But why can't you throw that on an unchecked bag?
