(Just to hold off a slew of recommendations, I know a bit about Wolfe and Book of the New Sun and the Mists series and so forth. I'm just wondering if Wizard Knight is worth a read, I guess and how it compares to his other work.)
I get the impression that this was Wolfe's attempt to pick up some YA audience. So, it may be a little too easy.

I always recommend new adult readers of Wolfe start with The Fifth Head of Cerberus. It's three interrelated novellas, and Wolfe was really at the peak of his sneakiness for Cerberus.
