With the very diverse ethnicity here in Hawaii we have a large Asian-American population, so we have many occasions to "scare off the evil spirits" with fireworks.
Aside from the professional shows happening weekly at the various resorts, we also get many private displays. Mostly strings of literally thousands of fire crackers. During the big holidays like New Years (both calendar and lunar) the gun smoke hangs over the island like London fog, and the ERs brace for respiratory emergencies.
