I have one original Paperwhite which definitely had uneven lighting (enough to be distracting). However, no such complaints on Aura HD, Glo HD and multiple PW2s, PW3s and PW4s. The screens on those are about as perfect as mass manufacturing allows.
Well except for one of my PW4 but that wasn't Amazon's fault. My brother threw a phone on the bed where I had very shortly set my open PW4 on so now it's got a small dent in the middle of the display. Honestly, I was surprised the screen didn't crack.
