Luckily, in the Netherlands we're only allowed to set off fireworks once a year, on New Year's Eve. Until a couple of years ago people were allowed to set it off from 10 am, they've changed that to 6 pm. Fireworks is only allowed to be sold in the three days leading up to New Year's Eve and not on Sunday.
Because of many accidents, upset animals (both pets and wild animals), the mess it leave and because of the environment there are more and more people who want to ban people setting off fireworks. As an alternative bigger cities can organize a professional fireworks or laser show to entertain people. I'm all for that.
