They will be in kepub format rather than standard epub and will probably (but not always) have DRM which can be removed with the appropriate calibre Obok plugin from Apprentice Alf. Not allowed to say much more than that about DRM in these forums.

If you're more familiar with Alf's other de-DRM plugin then I believe you can download your book in standard epub format by logging into your account at Kobo.com and using the download option.
Thank you so much. The 'fix' was directing me back to the Kobo site to simply download the e-pub format (encrypted with Adobe DRM). It's an obscure link within 'options' on the Kobo site, and not easy to find. Again, thank you for the kind direction. It's very much appreciated.
