Supposedly right now the highest version of Android that natively supports e-ink is Android 6. If the Alita is getting Android 8 then maybe Likebook figured out how to hack Android 8 to interface with the screen.
It was always possible but someone had to do the work. I wonder if it'll be picked up by other manufacturers soon.
