I've bought collections of short stories, notably the Lock and Key Classic Mystery and Detective one, which don't have TOCs or any indication of where one story ends and another begins. I had the same problem with a book of Jane Austen's Juvenilia. This was unreadable. I had no idea what or who I was reading, especially with the Lock and Key. It didn't cost much, about 99p from Amazon.
