It's hard to see if/how well you did it until you try soldering and nothing sticks!

The coating is not soluble in isopropyl alcohol, but it is (slightly) in acetone.
Buy some nail polish remover, but make sure that it says 100% acetone.
Use a damp (not dripping) Q-tip and "erase" the coating with some elbow grease.
And you would lose the water resistance by removing the coating, right?
